Welcome to Zentangle Inktober Tangles Day 1! Today’s challenge is the pattern RAIN.
The pattern RAIN was created by Zentangle. It’s a favorite pattern of mine and I frequently use it in classes, especially for kids. It’s simple to draw and makes a striking statement on its own. You can also choose to not fill in the triangles and use them as a framework for other patterns. It’s incredibly versatile!
Today’s Tangle
I love using RAIN as an overlay to other Zentangle patterns. In this case, I added PRINTEMPS, DIVA DANCE, AND CRESCENT MOON to the mix. Instead of shading with a sketch pencil, I opted to use my light blue General’s Chalk Pastel pencil.
The founders of Zentangle coined the phrase “mac-n-cheese tangles”. Most Zentangle artists tend to have patterns that they return to over and over again because they flow the easiest from our pens or we connect with them in some ways. I was excited that RAIN kicked off Day 1 of Inktober Tangles this year. It’s not one of my mac-n-cheese tangles, but it pairs so nicely with several patterns that are!

7F5R (Seven Forests Five Rivers) host a Zentangle version of Inktober every year called Inktober Tangles. Check out their Facebook group to find more information and to see the amazing art created by Zentangle teachers and artists from around the world. Each day, we are given a Zentangle pattern and are asked to create something with it.
