Floral Wreaths Zentangle & Colored Pencils Technique Class – What to Expect

During the first week, we will create a palette of tangles and explore different ways to use colored pencils to bring them to life. The second session will focus on the concept of grafting our patterns together to create a floral wreath with some or all of the patterns in our palette. (Depending on how quickly we create our palettes, we may start our wreaths during the firs week). We’ll then dive into adding color. Using what we discovered earlier, we’ll explore the interactions between the patterns. We’ll finish our tangle with a small amount of graphite for additional shading and low-lights.

This class is intended for tanglers who are familiar with The Zentangle Method® and the basic concepts. There are many great resources out there – starting with Zentangle HQ – to learn the basics. I offer two introductory courses: Introduction to Zentangle® and Intro to Zentangle® & Watercolor.

Class Supplies

You’ll need:

  • 2 – 3 sheets of White Mixed Media paper (minimum 98lb / 160g) – 5″ – 6″ square is ideal. (Bigger than this may end up being too big for the time alotted).
  • Black Micron 01, 02, or PN pen. Alternative: Any fine-tipped art pen such as a Staedtler fine-liner or Sharpie Ultra Fine Point
  • Soft Sketch Pencil – 2B, HB, or 2H work best
  • Tortillon or blending stump. Alternatives: Q-tip or tightly rolled paper towel
  • Good quality colored pencil set such as Prismacolor or Polychromos
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Eraser, preferably a sand eraser
  • Optional: Colorless blender pencil

Note: Creating the blends that we will explore requires good quality colored pencils. Cheaper pencils, such as Crayola and Rose Art, aren’t soft enough and/or are not rich enough.

Classroom Information & Policies

Zoom links will be emailed to you before class. The class will be recorded and you’ll have access to that recording for 7 days after the 2nd class. Also, at the conclusion, you will be provided with reference materials for the patterns we created.

In our time together, I will create a judgement-free zone. There are no mistakes in Zentangle! That means that each participant can go at their own pace and ability. I will encourage everyone to experiment and see what works for them.

Studio class cancellation policies can be found here.
