Watercolor & Zentangle Basics Art Class for Kids
Learn color theory, watercolor washes, shading techniques with graphite and white charcoal pencils, and Zentangle pattern drawing. Create two imaginative projects featuring fun abstract patterns using simple shapes and nature themes. This class is geared towards kids, ages 11 – 16.
This flexible schedule class runs for four weeks. The first week focuses on color theory and different techniques for creating watercolor washes. The second week explores The Zentangle Method® with a guided design using three patterns. Weeks three and four combines the watercolor washes the students created in the first week with Zentangle designs. Week three will use the patterns students learned the previous week. We’ll incorporate a white charcoal pencil with a graphite pencil highlights and lowlights. Week four introduces several nature-inspired patterns. This class is suitable for beginning artists of all levels.

The Outschool platform started as a small learning site geared towards homeschoolers. The pandemic saw an influx of students from traditional schooling backgrounds and Outschool responded. Now, it’s a popular platform that serves students world-wise with thousands of teachers and topics. Outschool provides a safe, inclusive space for all learners and has been a part of our family’s homeschool journey since 2017. I became a teacher there in 2020 when the pandemic forced me to close my in-person studio.
