Self-Paced Music Composition and Art Class for Tween and Teens

Self-Paced Classes: Music Composition & Zentangle Art for Ages 12 – 18

Can’t fit another thing into the schedule or don’t have the budget for private lessons? Check out my self-paced classes for tweens and teens. All of these classes feature video lessons and plenty of hands-on practice. Even though students work at their own pace, they have access to me while they work. I provide feedback and guidance every step of the way in the music composition classes. For my art classes, I love seeing how students transform my ideas into their own unique creations. I am always available to help troubleshoot or to brainstorm new ideas.

All of my self-paced classes are hosted on Outschool. When you register, you pick the start date, so you can be sure it fits in your busy kid’s schedule.

Music Composition Classes

My music composition classes focus on traditional composition for beginners. The first class requires a small amount of music theory knowledge to get started. The classes build on each other, but if your teen already has the foundation, they can start with a later class in the series. While enrolled, students will be granted a Noteflight account through my studio. Noteflight is a web-based music composition application which allows me to work collaboratively with my students. Classes incorporate lessons on Noteflight so students can hit the ground running with their compositions.

Because these classes are meant for beginners, check out my lesson options if your teen is more advanced.

Art Classes

The Zentangle® art form combines a unique way to relax and focus with super cool patterns. While these patterns are fun all by themselves, they can also work with other art techniques. My self-paced Zentangle Art Classes teach kids the basic art form and how to incorporate colored pencil or watercolor wash technique. Zentangle often models the abstract patterns on something from the real world. This opens up a realm of possibilities for beginner artists who fear they can’t draw. Learning Zentangle gives the added benefit of breaking down a bigger thing into smaller pieces/patterns – the concept carries over into other drawing techniques! Each class also features a way to add color to the pattern work. Students always have the option to work in black and white, but they will also learn colored pencil technique or watercolor wash technique to bring their creations to life.

About Outschool

The Outschool platform started as a small learning site geared towards homeschoolers. The pandemic saw an influx of students from traditional schooling backgrounds and Outschool responded. Now, it’s a popular platform that serves students world-wise with thousands of teachers and topics. Outschool provides a safe, inclusive space for all learners and has been a part of our family’s homeschool journey since 2017. I became a teacher there in 2020 when the pandemic forced me to close my in-person studio.
