Kinetic Voltage

Kinetic Voltage Original Dance Instrumental Music by Christina L. White

Kinetic Voltage

Like many of my songs, Kinetic Voltage started out as an experiment and a bit of a challenge to myself. I regularly challenge myself to see how quickly I can put together a song. As I discussed in my Slow Tides post, I don’t always have the luxury of time to put together a new song. Speed is the name of the game. I look for instrumentation and work flows that help me write faster without sacrificing quality.

I am a big fan of Native Instruments and subscribe to their monthly service. This gives me access to many of their products without the big upfront price tag. Like it or not, much of this industry runs on subscription services like what NI offers. As much as I’d like to own things outright, this allows me to spread the costs out over the course of the year while giving me access to top notch instrumentation.

Many of the NI instrument lines build motion and dynamics directly into the instrumentation. It’s not generic, either – I still have a ton of control over the sound, direction, effects, etc as I play my melodies and harmonies. The main instrument in Kinetic Voltage utilizes one of these types of instruments. I was shocked at how easily I created a dynamic line that fit into my vision without spending hours fiddling with a bunch of instruments and effects to get there! All told, this song took me about a day and a half of work from start to finish. I let it sit in my holding directory for a couple of months while I figured out what I wanted to do with it. Ultimately, I decided it was good for release as-is. Maybe someday I’ll come back to it and mess around with it further.

If you’re looking for more dance music, this song will eventually live on an album with Robot’s Night Out.
