What Child is This?

“What Child is This?” started as a vocal arrangement. As with many of my compositions and arrangements, it took on a life of its own. Maybe it’s because I wrote this back in July, but I had Renaissance Faires and summer festivals on the brain. These ideas crept into my arrangement – suddenly I was writing fantasy music! I dropped the vocals added world instrumentation and fairy voices to the mix instead.

This Christmas season, I’m dropping at least three new songs, starting with this one. I’m in the middle of writing a fourth one, so we’ll see if I can complete it before Santa’s big day. It joins Coventry Carol and In the Bleak Midwinter on my growing roster of Christmas arrangements. It also joins Prospect on my list of hymns. I’m thinking about ways to expand that list of hymns in the new year.
