In Solitude's Wake Ambient Instrumental Song

In Solitude’s Wake

My next instrumental, In Solitude’s Wake, started – as many of my songs do – with an experiment. I have a Native Instruments 360 Pro subscription. I have a lot of feelings about how everything is moving towards subscription services. Not all of them are good. However, this subscription gives me a significant catalog of quality software instruments in a way that I can afford them. (And the catalog is regularly updated with new stuff).

So. The experiment. One of the last updates gave me access to their Scene:Lotus instrument. It’s a small, lightweight instrument that blends together Japanese instruments with orchestral pad sounds. Given my love of Asian sounds, I downloaded the instrument and immediately I fired up a Logic session and immediately fell in love with the textures and underscore possibilities. I’ve gotten into the habit of recording my experiments since there were several times that I didn’t and wish I had. I came back to my experiment file a couple of weeks later, reworked some of the underscore and layered Asian instruments and a hangar drum to complete the song. This piece practically wrote itself!

In Solitude’s Wake will live on my Mystical Journeys album with Summit Whispers, Skyward Journey, Celestial Swirls, Echoes of the Wanderer. Thanks to a bad case of the flu, I’m a little behind on my schedule. My next song will drop in 3 weeks and it’ll be something a little different.

Check out my other arrangements and compositions. My library grows every month and now has a variety of styles. Besides world fusion instrumentals, it features electronic music, pop, and a few arrangements of old hymns and carols.
